A Girl's Smile Or A Mile?

A Girl's Smile Or A Mile?
How do we recognise a happy girl? does a cheerful smile on a girl's face signify happiness? in reality "no". Girls are those creations of god who know how to give happiness to others even when grief kills them inside out. A smile on a girl's face maybe fake, her heart might want to burst in tears but her face shows a strong emotionless character. Sometimes a girl might smile in situations you are phenomenally angry on her, you are howling and you get even more annoyed thinking she is laughing at you, in reality she is consoling her heart to react as her face. Fights and confusions between a girl and people who matter the most to her makes her weep but she pretends to be strong and selfless. A smile doesn't mean she has no problems,no heartbreaks, no tensions, no regrets , all it means is she wants to prove to the world and to herself how mature she is. The truth is a girl is not selfless when she loves someone, she cannot afford to lose that person and thus she tolerates and forgets every pain the person and people surrounding that the person gives her. A smile has a mile long meaning in a girl's life and this meaning only a girl can realize.

This beautiful piece is written by a girl resembling my same initial name, and i am just a mediator to make it reach to all of you, please do comment below if you can really connect to this!

A Trip To The HT Press

A Trip To The HT Press

More than a Mass Media field trip, it should be called a general science field trip because i could connect to a lot of science which is involved in printing those heaps of paper. As we all 1st entered we were served with tea and biscuits because they seemed to notice that we came to their press after a tiring school hours, that was really sweet of them. After the short interval we headed to see the roots of printing a newspaper. The person who was presenting all the information to us was Mr.Amit Patra , he told us that the paper in which the news is printed are all imported from countries like Russia,Indonesia,Canada and that these papers are not eco-friendly and these countries are slowly abandoning it to save trees! A good step indeed. The paper roll is of some 100+ kgs and to move it from one place to another they’ve made special tracks so that everyone there are safe, there are even specialized machines to pick those paper rolls. The 2nd level of the press does the printing work and all of us could see the top level of the press from which the final print of the paper comes from. They also showed us the CTP room i.e the computer to plate room, in this the 4 primary colours  Cyan,Magenta,Yellow,Black are printed on 4 different metal plates for the same page of the newspaper which is later merged and we get the colourful images in the newspaper, quite interesting to know. There is a separate room where a 1000kg ink box of these 4 colours are stored and used, just like water ink flows from those pipes. Mr.Amit also mentioned that when printing is done on the top floor , the noise of machine is so loud that a person can go deaf easily and that’s why all of them have been provided special devices so that no one turns deaf there. After seeing all the machinery we waited to see the printing to be done, which usually happens in the evening, so after a hour long wait we finally were able to see how the paper prints and then distributed, the machine printing speed is about 85,000 papers per hour, quite a huge no. it is. The printing press had different signs put all over the walls and windows regarding Safety and Hazardous things because there were a lot of things which can be harmful. When they were discussing about printing , he said, “you’ll play holi once in a year, and we play holi everyday!” as they deal with those 4 colours everyday and get coloured with them!

Overall it was a wonderful experience in the HT press, we got to know so many unknown facts about how a paper comes to our home... its main roots.

A visit to Hindustan Times press!

On 13 April 2017, we ( Mass media students) went to Hindustan Times's printing press. It was a nice learning experience for us and got a clear cut idea regarding how the newspapers are printed on the daily basis in these huge printing press.
The Hindustan Times's printing press is located at Airoli, Navi Mumbai. This unit serves the entire Mumbai region and also to the near by areas. The press comprises of huge machines which are made in Germany, put to work by the Labour working here. In our visit to the press we got to know that the newspapers are made with help of recycled paper and the pictures which are seen on the newspapers comprise of a few primary colors which are cyan, magenta, yellow and black. These four colors are applied on four different metal plates/ sheets for the same page of the newspaper which is later merged and we get the beautiful images on the newspaper. Talking about the colors one the employee in the press also said that "the common man plays holi only once a year but they play on a regular basis." HT cares a lot about their employees safety and with regards to this the press had different signs put up all around.
With that said, it was a great experience being their in the Hindustan Times's printing press and hope the school organises more such fun and learning field trips more often.
Thank you for reading! See you again....

The Glorious Defeat  - Aadhya Harikrishnan

Image result for pendulum clock clip artThe Glorious Defeat

I’m told I hold my own faith, as I stand on the no man’s land,
The future topples on the edge;   my history in this war is written with my own hand.
Yesterday I was a child; tomorrow I’m a warrior to be,
Today decides what tomorrow my life will see.

The battles I lose, tell me what I’m here for,
The battles I lose oddly bring me closer to winning the war.
All these scars but not a single bridge burnt,
Each victory reflects what I’ve learnt.

In the end, I’d rather write tale of defeat but in all its glory,
Than to win it all and have my tale be ordinary.
I see a vision far or near, where my flag waves at heights that sees no ground from where it stands,
But today, I choose no sides; I stay here in the middle on the no man’s land.
- Aadhya Harikrishnan

Teenage

The life goes through many kind of circumstances, the ages decide how we take these in our life there are three main ages childhood, adolescence and old.
Childhood and old has one similarity both needs care and wants attention of loved one,s but dissimilarity is that old has got its experienced certification but childhood is beginning of this course.
All these ages have their importance in life .among all there is one age which comes in between of childhood and adolescence i.e teenage.
Its very critical and energetic age , it can break all records of prosperity and destruction as well.
Actually a person in this age can hardly decide whether he is still a child or he is mature, that is why he thoughts his decisions are right and what he does is right.
The sudden departure from childhood and feet proceeding towards adolescence develops restlessness in him.
This restlessness can lead him to good as well as bad things depending upon type of friends he has and his breeding which comes only from family. Breeding never goes waste, it shows its reflections one day or other. The abrupt change in body creates chaos in one,s mind
The blood flows very fast so there is less tire seen in a person. If one handles it in best way no one in his life can stop him from being successful. But in addition to this the family right care and support works a lot, family must understand their psychological condition and must handle affairs in that way.
Then this teen age will lead a person to successful adolescence and this will in turn lead to good experienced old age.

MUMBAI - the mayanagari!

Mumbai

Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India, and the fourth most populous city in the world, with a total metropolitan area population of approximately 20.5 million. Along with the neighboring urban areas, including the cities of Navi Mumbai and Thane, Maharashtra,India it is one of the most populous urban regions in the world. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India and has a deep natural harbor. In 2009, Mumbai was named an Alpha world city. It is also the wealthiest city in India, and has the highest GDP of any city in South, West or Central Asia.

The name Mumbai is derived from Mumbā or Mahā-Ambā—the name of the patron goddess (KuladeviMumbadevi of the native AgriKoli and Somvanshi Kshatriya communities and ā'ī meaning "mother" in the Marathi language, which is the mother tongue of the kolis and the official language of Maharashtra. The seven islands that came to constitute Mumbai were home to communities of fishing colonies. For centuries, the islands were under the control of successive indigenous empires before being ceded to the Portuguese and subsequently to the British East India Company when in 1661 King Charles II married the Portuguese Catherine of Braganza, and as part of her dowry Charles received the ports of Tangier and seven islands of Bombay. During the mid-18th century, Bombay was reshaped by the Hornby Vellard project, which undertook reclamation of the area between the seven islands from the sea. Along with construction of major roads and railways, the reclamation project, completed in 1845, transformed Bombay into a major seaport on the Arabian Sea.

Bombay in the 19th century was characterized by economic and educational development. During the early 20th century it became a strong base for the Indian independence movement. Upon India's independence in 1947 the city was incorporated into Bombay State. In 1960, following the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, a new state of Maharashtra was created with Bombay as the capital.

Mumbai is the financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India. It is also one of the world's top ten centres of commerce in terms of global financial flow, generating 6.16% of India's GDP and accounting for 25% of industrial output, 70% of maritime trade in India (Mumbai Port Trust and JNPT),and 70% of capital transactions to India's economy. The city houses important financial institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange of India, the SEBI and the corporate headquarters of numerous Indian companies and multinational corporations. It is also home to some of India's premier scientific and nuclear institutes like BARCNPCLIRELTIFRAERBAECI, and the Department of Atomic Energy. The city also houses India's Hindi (Bollywood) and Marathi film and television industry. Mumbai's business opportunities, as well as its potential to offer a higher standard of living, attract migrants from all over India, making the city a melting pot of many communities and cultures. Mumbai has the highest number of billionaires and millionaires among all cities in India.

The local, strides through the rotten rails,
Metal to metal, rust to rust
The boggy sways and along with it, the hangers who
Hang in there, not by choice but by the might
Of time, distance, and bills to pay
The feeling is mutual as we stand, sway
Push, pull, and grab on to anything just to balance
Yet the journey never ends
It only begins

Mumbai-Land Of High Spirtis

Mumbai:
Land Of High Spirits
‘Mumbai’ whenever we hear this name, what is the 1st thing that comes to your mind? Please let me know through your comments below. For me the first thing comes in is bollywood, local trains, oceanof many job opportunities and a metropolitan city which never sleeps and stops its functioning even on a national holiday. And yes it is true, and that’s the reason so many people of different cultures, backgrounds, languages, regions, religions, age come here in the search of a job which they don’t get if they stay in their own native place.
This city has place for everyone, every immigrant who comes in this city for a job manages to get some place to live as well, maybe it is not in good condition but still, it’s only that much they can afford.
Local trains is one of the unique qualities of Mumbai which Britishers left as a boon for us, it is the easiest communication between the Thane,Central,Western and Harbour line which connects millions of people in this city from their home to their workplace. The communication has just made the Mumbaikar’s life more easier and cost-effective.
Isn’t it amazing to know we love one amongst were the bollywood stars live? Every Mumbaikar must have been asked this question ‘hey you live in Mumbai na? Have you seen Mannat? You must have seen at least shah rukh khan on his birthday when he comes to wave his hand at the roof on his birthday, or Amitabh Bachchan? He also comes to wave’ but wait! Celebrities just don’t roam around that we will be able to see them everytime. we visit Mumbai, ya i have encountered many TV personalities after i came to Mumbai so for me it was a cloud 9 moment to come in Mumbai! But if you had a celebrity encounter  then please go ahead and show off by , ‘yes! I have seen Shraddha Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgn when they came for a shooting in Kharghar/malad/andheri’ just kidding!
Slum area and the waste dumped in Mumbai rails is so huge and vast which is the saddest part of this city, yet the slums act as the most efficient place to recycle the tons of waste produced as an urban city , this was something i remember when i read it in my economics textbook at some point of my life, but they themselves are not hygienic which leads to spreading of lots of diseases all over that area and even beyond.
Proper waste disposal and giving a better life to slums is the need of the hour. I still remember my school visit to the Mahim Nature Park where one side i saw such greenery and well maintained garden and just on the opposite side it was a slum area where a drain was flowing and a lot of plastics and other wastes were dumped there as if that area doesn’t belong to the city as no one is concerned to solve the problem of proper waste disposal. Can we and he government together take a step towards it? At least we can on our personal level.
Apart from all of this i also realized that the TV and film industry in Mumbai has created a lot of employment for the educated and the uneducated for their manual skill work, and for the scholars there was and always will be so many jobs waiting for them in different fields. People come here to earn, leaving their families in their village to stay 11 months out of a year in Mumbai to give a better life to their family so isn’t it the Mumbaikar’s responsibility that we make this ‘city of dreams’ a little bit more better place to live?

MUMBAI-THE CITY OF DREAMS

MUMBAI-THE CITY OF DREAMS....
It would sound very clichéd to call Mumbai the New York of India, but that is what describes this city of dreams the best. It depicts the place that is always up and about.A city with a spirit of gold and a determination to never say die, even in the wake of terrorist attacks and natural calamities, sensex, film stars and larger than life dreams which gave Bombay its identity.
Mumbaikars represent the true spirit of India as this city is a crucible of people from different religions, caste and communities. Representative of the “never say die” spirit, these people are full of life and vigour.
Millions go unnoticed like sand castles washed away at the beach, millions are attracted by the skyscrapers and millions are immortalised . From Haji Ali to Siddhivinayak, from local trains to the Vada Pav, from the boulders of Bandstand to the sands of Juhu, from Mangeshkar to Tendulkar, from the Khans to the Bachchans, it is ‘Aamchi Mumbai’ all the way.
Almost a hundred Bollywood movies have had as their opening scene of Victoria Terminus, introducing Mumbai as sapno ki nagari.
Dreams come true here, dreams shatter here, but life doesn’t go off the tracks. The locals move on, carrying lakhs of  dreaming hearts every day.
With torrential rains, monsoons add up  to the dreamy quotient of this place.

Mumbai, thus is the definition of Urban India. Not meant for people who love the calm and peace of the countryside, it is however the best place to visit if one believes in living life to the fullest. The engine siren pierces through the silence of  the night, the bogies rattle on the tracks, the signals go red and green, and the Mumbai locals go on and on......

Teenagers: Why Do They Rebel?

Breaking curfew, arguing, shoplifting. Teenagers can push your patience. All teens go through similar phases -- the need for independence, a separate identity, testing authority. It's part of growing up; it's also linked to developmental changes in the brain that will eventually help them become analytical adults.

Image result for anime teen arguing to parentsDuring the teenage years, the area of the brain called the pre-frontal cortex is developing it's your thinking cap and judgment center. where kids don't see the flaws in parents but adolescents suddenly see the world more realistically. As a child evolves into a teenager, the brain becomes able to synthesize information into ideas. Teens want to exercise their new skill -- and they tend to practice on their parents. "It may seem that they argue for the sake of arguing. But really, they're practicing their new abilities."

Pulsating Mumbai

PULSATING MUMBAI

No place is as random as Mumbai- from its people to its traffic to its slum. But in the midst of chaos, there is still a melodious rhythm to it all.”

Mumbai called the New York of India sounds very cliche, right? But that is what describes the city of dreams the best. It depicts the place is always up and about, even in the wake of terrorist attacks and natural calamities.
Mumbaikars represent the true spirit of India as this city is crucible of people from different religions, caste and communities. Representative of “Never say die” spirit, these people are full of vigor. This however doesn’t mean that religion holds no place in the life of Mumbai. Siddhi Vinayak temple stands testimony to the devout nature of the people of this city.
Food is the highlight of this city. Chaupati beach offers one wide variety of street ranging from bhelpuri, panipuri, Vada pav. Desserts of this place includes chikki, shrikhan, puran poli and shira.
The home of the Indian Film industry, one has to visit the gateway of India. The central attraction of the city, important because this is where the Britishers left the independent India. A walk down Marine drive is all that is required to soothe one’s soul.
Shopping in Mumbai is an absolute delight. A home to all the brands of the world, this place also provides a good bargain for people who don’t leave a hole in their pocket.
The commercial capital of India, this city comes as a surprise to visitors its high rising structures, multi-millionaires.
This city comes as a surprise to visitors its high rising structures, multi-millionaires driving down, multinational business houses on o e hand destroying the slums of Dharawi.

Teenage

One person, one life, but that one life consists of various stages, which we all have to pass through . There are seven stages of life. Shakespeare did say,'This world is a stage and we are the performers, as our performance gets over another performance comes to stage life'.
The most important phase of our life is teenage. Its the time when we actually start leading towards maturity.
Teenage is full of confusion and chaos. Our life feels like a complete mess.
We want to be independent, want to have our own opinion, we want to live life in our own way. We wish to fulfill all our desires.
We want to be free and fly Luke a bird. Teenage is full of wishes. Teenagers have their own goals.
Yess, It is full of  chaos but it is our best time to mould ourselves into what we wish to be.

Where the mind is without fear

Where The Mind Is Without Fear

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Local Trains-Lifeline of Mumbai.

Mumbai locals are rightly called the lifeline of the city, with almost all of the city’s inhabitants relying on them to get to work or other destinations at some point of time. Many of them rely on these services on a daily basis. This is why Mumbai Suburban Railways operates over 2,300 train services every single day.Local trains carry a whooping 8 million people everyday from it employees to dabbawalas all use the local trains for commuting. Most people use local train because it saves time and for mumbaikrs time is everything they cannot waste time waiting in traffic so most people prefer the local trains which are easy and convenient to travel and the railway lines spans 450 kms which makes the city well connected.

Mumbai’s local trains rarely stop functioning and they do not get much of a rest. Each night the railway lines will only fall silent for a brief interval of one and a half hour, between 2:05 am, when the last train pulls into Borivali, and 4:15 am, when the first trains sets out from Churchgate. On the Central line too, the last train reaches Karjat at 2:45 am, while the first train leaves from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 4:12 am.

In conclusion, Mumbai locals are rightly called the lifeline of the city, with almost all of the city’s inhabitants relying on them to get to work or other destinations at some point of time. Many of them rely on these services on a daily basis. This is why Mumbai Suburban Railways operates over 2,300 train services every single day and it is used by both rich and poor, men and women, older and younger and the best part is they don’t fall silent.

A lunch box delivery man - Dabbawala

A lunch box delivery man- Dabbawala

Who is not fond of home cooked food? and this 125 year old tradition of the dabbawalas of Mumbai help the office workers to have an appetizing meal amid their lunch time.
This tradition is unique as well as interesting. It started way back in the seventeenth century with 100 men and today has approx.5000 men delivering around 2,00,000 lunch boxes. These  dabbawalas do not use any Hi-Tech management strategies its just a legacy they are following since a a century.
The process starts in the morning at 10:30am when all the dabbawalas have finished collecting 30-40 dabbas (lunch boxes) from their assigned area on their bicycles after fighting the busy roads of the city. Then all the dabbawalas gather at the local railway station. The dabbas are then categorized according to their routes and then they are taken to their destinations.Error rate here is 0.0001%.At 1:00pm the dabbas are delivered at their destinations everyday without being late.Half of the task is completed then. All the empty dabbas are collected and delivered back at their homes before 6:00pm.
While going through the official website of the Mumbai dabbawalas I came to know a lot more than what I was aware of, this process of transporting these dabbas that it changes hands about 3-4 times or even 6 times.
This is an extraordinary tradition which is carried out across Mumbai, with fresh home cooked food these dabbawalas deliver love and affection of every housewife to their loved one with lots of dedication and hard work.
Its wonderful to know about a different task carried out by different people in a different way.

PRESSURES AND HELLS OF MODERN TEENAGE LIFE

Image result

As a teenager we have to deal with too many emotional highs and lows. We discover the most intense situations of our life like Peer pressure, added responsibilities, low self esteem, heartbreak, anxiety, our 'CARING AND LOVING' family/relatives' huge expectations....and the biggest problem out of all this is.......guess!

THE SPLIT PERSONALITY DISORDER At one moment we are all nice and kind, but the very next moment.....

All these things make life more difficult... Infact, No period of our life comes close to being as difficult as our teenage years.

Actually we teenagers are some where in between a kid where we want to cuddle and an adult full of responsibilities on their shoulders, actually teenage is when people expect you to behave like mature adults and yet you are not given considerable freedom.

But when we go through all this we learn to take our own decisions, we develop the ability to think abstractly and we change for good.....we come out as better individuals to face the real world where we actually belong....

Traffic congestion in Mumbai

Traffic in Mumbai is a common sight. This is due to increase in population, no strict policing, poor quality of roads etc. People in this city spend most of their time travelling. The problem is at its peak during monsoon when water logging and bad road conditions add more to the dilemma.

Teenage Years

TEENAGE YEARS

“Mommy can I –”
“No, you can do it when you are older.”
“But… okay.”

How many times have we had this conversation with our parents only to be turned down at the pretext of age? And how many times have we wanted to grow up and ‘experience’ life?
It’s ironic, isn’t it? How when we were younger we couldn’t wait to grow up and now that we are finally growing up we yearn for the good old days.
Your teenage years are like a trial version of how your life is going to be but on a smaller scale yet these prove to be some of the toughest albeit memorable years.
‘Growing up’, you get a taste of reality, you start forming your own individual identity, different from your parents or siblings or friends. The thoughts in your head are really yours and not formed by bias or impressions. Throughout our life we are constantly evolving as individuals, teenage years just speed up the process.
You learn how to handle everything, be it happiness, stress, betrayal, heartbreak or just life in general. You learn how to grow up and behave like a respectable and sane member of the society.
Yet somewhere along the line, you fit into the mould that society has designed for you. Your goals and aspirations and dreams become ‘realistic’ and you learn to give compromise the name satisfaction.
The possible reason for this is that we don’t let our children learn how to grow up, we just expect them to do so without giving them considerable control over their own lives. One moment 16 year olds need permission to even go to the washroom, and next they are expected to make career decisions that will affect their entire life.
Being a teenager is like hanging in the middle, you are neither a kid nor an adult. You are just somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
And in today’s world, a teenager has to be excellent in every aspect of their life or else there is the burning fear of being mediocre for the rest of your life.
But on the bright side, if you have survived your teenage years with all the mood swings and the pressure of fitting in, you can probably survive hell too.

Cheers to being almost adults!

TEENAGE DREAM

           TEENAGE DREAM

It all started with puberty and everything seemed strange,
my world turning upside down and mumma celebrating my gain.
Everyone was cheering and said,"you've grown up"
but all this meant for me was now i was free.

now the day had come to command life on my own,
to do whatever felt right and judge right from wrong.

I was my own genie and granted all my wish,
tried everything new even if it meant you had to slip.
Now all wrong seemed right and truth was all gone.
My parents tried to stop me and said,"this is wrong"
but all I did was push away and said,"I'm no lil girl anymore."

As I resumed to this darkness, the path of drug and theft,
karma had it's own plans as she said,"now I'll get you back."

My freedom cost me everything, my friends and my life,
now all i can wish is for this teenage dream to go back.

                              MUMBAI DURING RAINY SEASON

                     http://images.skymetweather.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Rainy.jpg

Scientifically rain is a liquid water in the form of droplets that have condensed from atmospheric water vapour and is then precipitated. Rain is the main source of water so it is very much important in our life.
June marks the beginning of the monsoon period in Mumbai. The beginning of the month is characterized by a continuation of the summer with increased humidity.

When it rains too heavily the children are very happy as they are having chances to get holiday to school. But if it rains too heavily then trains stop, people do not have any sources to travel long distances. There are chances of water logging. The most dirtiest thing about rain in Mumbai  that usually happens during each monsoon is that the channels, sewage get filled with rain water and it overflows. The main reason behind this is, the channels are chocked by plastic bags.
Since by now everyone knows the importance of afforestation, by planting trees we can get enough amount of rainfall. Without trees we would not get sufficient amount of water and the water problems may still continue.
The most amazing thing that I feel during rainy season is drinking a cup of  chai and eating garma garam pakoras along with it.
