BOOK REVIEW: SHIVA TRILOGY

The Shiva trilogy is the tale of extraordinary whose adventures 4000 years ago are remembered today as the myths of the mahadev, the god of gods.  It is chronicled through three books “the immortals of meluha”, “the secret of nagas” and “the oath of vayuputras”.

The author ‘AMISH TRIPATI” planned to write this trilogy as he was lord Shiva’s devotee. He tried to create uniqueness in the book by creating modern lord shiv. Amish tripati got lot of appreciation of the public and the trilogy got immense popularity within few days.

This book is based on a radical idea that all Gods were once human beings; it was their deeds in the human life that made them famous as Gods. He tries to narrate an ancient mythological story with logical explanations and strikes chord with the younger audience who have modern outlook but does not mind visiting ancient traditions albeit without blind faith and superstition.

The first part of Shiva trilogy, “The Immortals of Meluha” shows the beginning of the journey of Shiva and revolves around Meluha kingdom.

The second book in the Shiva trilogy is equally overwhelming story with mysteries unravelled at each step. The story continues from previous book with Shiva trying to locate evil. This also gets in detail about the family of Shiva, Vaishnav priests, Naga warriors and a deadly disease killing a kingdom.

The third book, “The Oath of Vayuputras” was a major dud after the literary high of the first two books on Shiva Trilogy. The search for Evil ends abruptly and the book concentrates majorly on war strategies and alliances formed for the ultimate war. By the end of the trilogy the connection with the main protagonist Shiva is lost but the message of mankind was loud and clear.
