Why Not Invest in Education instead of Marriage ?

Recently my friend visited a marriage in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. when she came back to Mumbai, she was all pumped up and excited about it and was revisiting those small, funny, amazing and nostalgic small talks and moments of the wedding.Of course I had to hear all of it, not that I wasn't interested or anything of that sort, but in between, my mind kept on wandering into deep thoughts about weddings in general. When my friends told me that the girl who got married was twenty five years of age, a single child to her parents and the marriage cost her family 'twenty five lakhs'  I was truly surprised. The thought occurred to me, 'why don't these families spend the same amount of money, that they used in the marriage, into something different such as 'education' for instance? It has been generations since we have seen the same criterion going on and on and on...
The family, on realising that a girl is born, start saving money from the very beginning for her marriage! This includes all the cost of the wedding along with 'dowry' which still exists in our country today. I seriously don't get it ! This is all so confusing, I mean if you are giving your daughter to another family forever, why must you pay for the other family just to keep her?Isn't just sending your daughter enough ?If you teach your daughter and start investing in her education instead, she will not be a burden, and will become independent and an asset for the family. Its a win win situation! And of course , marriage can follow soon after.
Of course , these are my thoughts purely and the same does not apply everywhere. And nevertheless, marriages still continue to be one of the best occasions, a wonderful celebration with cherished memories and happy moments. The energy, the joy, the smiling faces of everyone will put one in a good mood instantly!Truly, no wedding can match the great Indian one!
